Father Reunites With Daughter After Finder Her in Homeless Shelter

Bryan Thouvenel is very close with his young daughter of 5-years-old named Harmony. They are now inseparable, but the last two years ago that was not the case. It was not until now, after reuniting when Thouvenel found Harmony in a homeless shelter did their bond take off, having to jump start from where it left off.

Harmony was separated from her father Bryan’s life when her mother and Bryan’s ex-girlfriend took Harmony and disappeared out of the state. It was because of a friends tip that Thouvenel was finally able to track down the light of his life as well as his estranged ex who were both in Washington State living in a homeless shelter.

Thouvenel has now been granted full custody of his daughter Harmony. When the nonprofit charity Time To Put Kids First caught wind of the story they decided to help make up for lost time by paying for a trip to the Hawaiian island of Kauai for the two. The organization supports parent-child bonding and decided a trip will help make up for the three years the two have lost.

“For two years she didn’t have any memories with me so they decided It would be a nice idea to send us over to Hawaii for a retreat. It would be this huge memory that she would actually remember. Regardless of whatever happens in the future, she will always have this on memory with her dad.” Says Thouvenel, 41. The two will take the trip this May.

Thouvenel met Harmony’s mother in 2010 while visiting a karaoke bar. They dated for two years, during which time they had their daughter. Not long after Harmony was born the couple split up and Harmony’s mother took off to Washington state without sharing the twos exact whereabouts with Thouvenel. Thouvenel searched tirelessly for his daughter and got nowhere, at one time in 2014 he even wrote a song that expressed his grief over his missing daughter.

“I was kind of like finding a needle in a haystack.”

In 2015 Thouvenel still did not give up home and things suddenly started to look hopeful. Although he did not yet find his daughter he was awarded custody after he filed for it in March of 2015. It was only three months after that when he received a phone call from a mutual friend who said they have seen Harmony at a Salvation Army Site in Spokeana, Washington. Thouvenel was having dinner with his mother at the time of the call and as soon as he hung up the two hopped in the car and drove 10 hours straight to Spokane. As soon as Thouvenel arrived he got a court order for custody, which saw the judge rule in his favor.

The mother is still speaking to Harmony over skype and is allowed supervised visits. Thouvenel is just happy to have his daughter back and is happy to move on while staying hopeful.

“I don’t want to focus on any of the negative aspects of the story at all. The one thing that matters in this whole story is a little girl. This is her life.”
